Throbb

Throbb

Throbb is Goth’s companion from the hot jungle in South America that was captured to be studied.

He is always hungry and is always craving bat meat. He whines and complains and always takes orders and does what Goth says.

He is a bit on the dumb side of things.

He also worships and prays to Cama Zotz but he is not from the royal family and is not a prince like Goth.

Marina

Marina is the bat that Shade meets on an Island after he gets lost in the storm, away from his colony.

Marina is a Brightwing bat, she has a silver band around her wing, and her family sent her away because of it. They believe that it will bring bad luck to the Brightwing colony. So she went away to live on a small Island. But according to the Chief elder of the Silverwing colony, Frieda she believes that the Silver bands are a promise that their goddess, Nocturna will free them from the darkness and that they will be able to see the sun again.

Some characteristics of Marina:

1. She determined, but sensitive of the fact that her family pushed her away.

2. She is a bit of a know-it-all

Silverwing....the Novel

Shade, is a young Silverwing runt who is constantly bullied by the other newborns for being small and helpless. Shade is frustrated so he challenges Chinook, the biggest and strongest newborn who picks on him the most to see the sun. Chinook backs out and Flies home.

Shade sees the sun, but an owl catches him and he barely gets into his roost in time.

The owls want revenge so they set fire to tree haven (The place where the females and newborns live until they meet up with the males in stonehold and fly to Hibernaculum)

This forces the silverwings to leave for their hibernation earlier. During the flight, there is a great storm and shade is separated from his colony. He ends up on an unfamiliar island where he meets a Brightwing bat who has been pushed away from her family and colony because she was banded by the humans. Her name is Marina.

Shade and marina decide to fly south to try and catch up with shade’s colony. They endure many obstacles on the way, Pigeons, owls, rats, storms, humans, and Cannibal bats from the jungle, weird bats with strange beliefs and more.

Nocturna's Promise

The bats can only fly by moonlight because billions of years before, there was a battle between the birds and the beasts and the bats refused to take sides. This made all the creatures angry and so the bats were banished. The bat’s goddess, Nocturna made a promise to them that sometime they would be free to fly day and night without harm from any creature.

If the bats were caught flying in the day, any creature that caught them was allowed to catch and kill them.

Tree Haven

"home to thousands of silverwings for generations..."

Tree haven is a giant, ancient tree that is homes to thousands of Mother Silverwings and their newborns until they fly to join up with the males at stonehold and continue to Hibernaculum where they hibernate.

It has many different rooms and roosts in each branch, there is also an echo chamber that bats will speak their losses, victories and news and the Echoes bounce off the walls and never die out. This is how they preserve their memories.

Only to their misfortune, when shade see’s the sun and is nearly captured by an owl, the owls want revenge so they burn down Tree haven.
